Sr Dr Annah Theresa Nyadombo HLMC

Sr Dr Nyadombo is a member of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Handmaids of Our Lady of Mount Carmel working at the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops’ Conference (ZCBC) as National Education and Safeguarding Coordinator.

She is a Council Member of the Catholic University of Zimbabwe (CUZ) and was appointed by Pope Francis in 2022 to be  a Member of the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors. She is also a member of the Pan-Africa and Catholic Theological Ethics Network.

She has studied in several disciplines including:

  • Education (University of Zimbabwe)
  • Canon Law (National University of Ireland)
  • International Leadership (Pontifical University Antonianum, Rome)
  • Social Sciences (Women’s University in Africa)
  • Masters of Business Administration (Zimbabwe Open University)
  • Monitoring and Evaluation (Lupane University, Zimbabwe).  

She holds a doctorate of Philosophy in Education and Social Sciences from the University of Dublin, Ireland.

She has worked as a Lecturer, the Superior General of her Congregation, as an Administrator, as Diocesan Secretary of Education for Mutare Diocese, as a Commissioner of the Justice and Peace of the Carmelite Order and was Leader in the Carmelite NGO for Africa. She has also worked as a Coordinator for International Talitha Kum Network.

In Zimbabwe she has been ZCBC National Coordinator and has promoted different approaches creating safe environments to the safeguarding of minors and vulnerable adults. She has guided policies, guidelines, books, cards, and flyers as written documents to support the work of safeguarding.

She has participated in several International Safeguarding Conferences since 2018.  She is well known for capacity building of people at different levels from spiritual development to academic, through holistic approaches.

At the ISC 2023, she will share the intervention of the Safe Schools Program implemented in some Catholic Primary Schools in Zimbabwe in partnership with Porticus and for researching the Randomized Controlled Trial with London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM).
