Sr Rejoice Hoedoafia PhD

Sr Rejoice Enyonam Hoedoafia, is a Sister of the religious order, Sisters of Divine Love and Mercy (SDLM) from Ghana. She obtained her PhD in Psychology from the Pontifical Gregorian University Rome, Italy in 2020. She holds an MSc in Clinical Psychology from the Institute of Psychological Sciences, now Divine Mercy University, VA, USA and Bachelor of Education in Psychology from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. 

Sr Rejoice is currently a psychology lecturer and interim head of the Mental Health Department, School of Medicine of the University for Development Studies (UDS), Tamale. She is also a part-time psychology and child safeguarding lecturer at the St. Victor’s Major Seminary Tamale. Dr Hoedoafia’s research interests include psychological trauma, anxiety, stress, parenting and safeguarding of young people.  She is especially interested in policy that protects and stops abuse of minors and domestic violence in all of its manifestations. Her PhD research was on intrafamilial sexual abuse of minors. She is also an advocate against early and force child marriages.

She is a registered member of the Ghana Psychology Association, which is an affiliate member of the APA and Pan Africa Psychologist Union (PAPU) and the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference’s National Advisory Board on Safeguarding/Protecting Minors and Vulnerable Adults.  She is also a member of the Global Safeguarding Alliance (GSA), a member of the Tamale Archdiocesan Child Safeguarding Committee and a Manager and resource person for training pastoral agents, children, seminarians and non-Catholics on safeguarding young people with e-learning child protection programmes of the Pontifical Gregorian University.

As a practicing psychologist, she attends to young people and adults at the Tamale Teaching Hospital. She also serves as a psychologist providing pioneering pro-bono interventions and advocacy at the Total Life Enhancement Centre, Ghana (TOLECGH).

She is passionate about the safety and protection of children and for persons with Mental ill health and aspires to see all in need of psychological services receive timely and professionally interventions and support.
